Officer-Involved Shooting leaves One Man Dead
One suspect was shot and killed early on Saturday after a traffic stop quickly turned into a shootout with CHP officers just north of Riverside. The shooting took place in the very early morning around 2 a.m. on East La Cadena Dive and Iowa Avenue near the 215 freeway. CHP officers were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle when the driver stepped out of the car and opened fire on the officers. The suspect was able to hit the CHP officer’s vehicle and fortunately missed both of the officers. The officers returned fire and hit the suspect, but he somehow got back in his vehicle and tried to get away in the car. The car did not make it that far and they ended up at a nearby shopping center. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger was able to flee the scene as the gunfire broke out and his whereabouts are still unknown. No description of the passenger was given.
